Maintaining proper muscle tone around areas of your spine and body is a crucial and important part of your healing process. Here are some of the tools I use and/or recommend for using at home.

The "theracane" or "massage hook" device is one of my favorite devices for its simplicity, cheaper cost, and its ability to hit muscle groups in a way few devices can. My favorite use is hitting the areas on the back and outer side of the scapula. The first link below is a more rigid if you really want to press deep into knots.

This second link is the original "theracane". It has a little more give to it, which makes it a little more forgiving when applying pressure. Both devices work well.

If your muscles are feeling very fatigued, sore, and in general you feel like you'd rather have some electrical assistance for restoring your muscles back to a healthy condition, here are a few options.
I've used this massager by "Bob and Brad" in the office and find it to be of good quality, reasonable portability/maneuverability and a decent price.
If you'd like a slightly smaller unit for more portability and a slightly cheaper price they make a smaller version.
I've used this HoMedics device off and on at home for years for general muscle recovery. It's a plug-in device so it might not be as convenient as some of the newer battery ones, but it is a decent overall massager.
Another great option for times where you are able to put minimal effort towards self-massage and aren't wanting to break the bank are the wrap-around style massagers. Here is one option below:
You may have heard me talk about cupping. This technique can help loosen especially troublesome muscles. I like it for around the upper-back and shoulder blades, but they can be used for much more than that. Ask me in the office and maybe bring them in for recommendations on using them.
I have a seat cushion in the waiting room on one of the chairs. It can give more support to the hips/pelvis, especially with a hard chair. Here is the link:
